IT CASE: UKRAINIAN IT-SERVICES FOR NORWEIGAN START-UPS

There is a great unlocked potential for business cooperation between Norwegian startups and Ukrainian IT-companises.  This is the key finding in the analysis conducted by one of the groups in NUCCs Young Entrepreneurs Program 2017.

The Group consisted of Olav Apeland, Sondre Pedersen, Stein Thore Haga, Misha Oblonskyi, Vladimir Liulka, and Olga Afanasyeva. They are entrepreneurs, business leaders and/or business developers from Norway and Ukraine.

Some of the main findings are the following:

Access to IT-competence is one of the main barriers to growth for Norwegian startups. In a survey conducted by the Group, as many as 77,8% of the respondents said they have been considering outsourcing some IT services. Among the services the startups are most likely to outsource are front-end, back-end and development of Applications. The largest barriers to outsource are the wish to do the development in-house and the assumed risk involved. Over 4 in 5 of the startups will use their own network to find an IT-partner in Ukraine.

Ukraine has become an attractive IT and outsourcing destination in Europe. The reason is the combination of high capacity, high competence and relatively low prices. With about 90 000 IT-specialists, Ukraine has the 4th largest number of certified IT-specialists worldwide. 9 out of 10 companies offer services to $30/hour or less per hour of work.
